Dacon Inspection Services was originally incorporated in Oslo, Norway in 1979 as a diving and sub sea inspection company. After initial involvement in several development projects in the early days of the oil exploration in the North Sea, Dacon was in 1984 contracted by Elf to develop the world’s first ROV deployed internal Well head inspection tool.

Since then Dacon has developed itself or been part of numerous developments for the oil & gas sector, mainly within internal inspection and deep sea application. Most developments have been for either inspection or remote tooling application. Dacon has until this day been a leader in oil field related riser, kaising, caisson and down hole inspection, as well as a recovery expert for retrieval of “lost” or stuck equipment and parts inside piping systems.

In 1993 Dacon’s first office in Asia was opened in Singapore, providing inspection services in the South East Asia region.

In 1994 a representation was established in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with services being provided mainly for Malaysia’s offshore field and eastern seaboard petrochemical industries.

In 1996 Dacon established a new head office in Rayong, Thailand and soon was established as one of the leading inspection service supplier both offshore and in the country’s bustling petrochemical, refinery and power industry. Along the way Dacon developed into a full fledged inspection company with all conventional NDT, regular inspection and specialized inspection. Dacon today holds one of the largest equipment parks in the region and amongst other is the only supplier for all categories of tubular inspection (see equipment section for more information).

In 1999 Dacon started development of a brand new intelligent pigging system on request from the French Total and Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTTEP). This was to be developed as a tool capable of inspecting the pipeline Total/PTTEP had experienced inaccuracies from other In Line Inspection (ILI) tools.

In 2001 Dacon started an IT service company in Ban Chang Rayong proving both hardware and services. This is now specializing in Wireless/WiFi IT communication

In 2006 a trading company, Dacon Trading was incorporated to trade in petrochemical industry related maintenance and inspection products, as well as being an authorized agent for Pelican Industries commercial torches and boxes.

In 2006 Dacon also purchased 4 rai of land, next to Sukhumvit Road in Ban Chang. A new property company, Dacon Eastern was formed as the owner of this land, with the intention to lease the land to DIST to build a new office and test/laboratory facility on.

Also in 2006 Dacon rented an additional 2 rai of land in ban Chang, where a large full scale pipeline testing facility has been built. This test yard has now been relocated to the new office, and is now being used by oil companies like PTTEP and Chevron to test out pipeline applications intended for offshore sub sea use.

In 2007 Dacon started a travel agency specializing in commercial traveling and arrangements. The ThaiWings.com has been approved by IRATA as a full member and started issuing tickets in March 2007.

In 2008 Dacon has got the certification of ISO 9001-2000 audited by TUV Nord of Germany, ensuring our customers for our quality services to international standard.

Since its start in Thailand in 1996, Dacon has grown to employ a total of 68 employees and operates its own fleet of cars and a training center for its employees.

1. QMS & HSE POLICY

Dacon maintains a Quality Management System (QMS) that complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 for Quality Management and Quality System Procedures. Copies of the main manual and the procedures are controlled issue documents and are available from the company on request. A smaller more compact document is designed for general distribution to employees, suppliers and customers and is not a controlled document.

The Health and Safety Policy Manual describes the Dacon Inspection Services Ltd. policies regarding health, safety and environment. The HSM has been developed to comply with regulatory, industry, and customer health and safety requirements that apply to items and services provided by Dacon. It is applied at Dacon operations worldwide and recognises the need to comply with the equivalent national standards imposed by international Customers/Safety Authorities.

3.PERSONNEL

All Dacon’s inspection personnel are as a minimum trained to SNT-TC-1A Level II in categories UT, MT and PT. Inspectors specializing in other fields will have additional certifications. Dacon employs Level III senior inspectors and conducts continuous training to maintain and improve inspection personnel capabilities.

All Dacon inspectors have as a minimum training the Offshore Sea Survival and Firefighting and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET). All safety training is updated on 3 year intervals

4.FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS AND EXPANSIONS

Dacon has expanded in several directions over the last couple of years, with the acquisitions of more advanced inspection equipments, such as TOFD and expansion of the Tubular Inspection Tools. This has again increased the market lead Dacon has enjoyed in the high tech sectors of inspection.

Furthermore, the big development and R&D programs that Dacon has undertaken both on its own and in cooperation with customers, has elevated the intelligent pigging capability of Dacon to be of world leading capability. The new systems for pipeline inspections will incorporate some of the most technologically advanced applications ever before applied inside a pipeline.
In general Dacon is only just barely getting involved in the huge world wide market of pipeline inspection, where new legislations both in the US and the EU now demands pipeline operators to perform regular inspections.
