The recent successful inspection of several key production pipelines late 2016, in Patagonia, Argentina, marked another eventful year for Dacon inspection services Company Limited. These production pipelines, situated offshore, were part of the customer’s network of pipelines with product being sent to a receiving facility onshore. As part of maintenance during shut-down, in-line inspection was required to assess the overall integrity of the pipeline in the vertical riser sections of each line. Dacon was given this task to perform the in-line inspection all within a very tight window.
The highlight of this project was the method of execution customized due to the nature of the inspection and narrow time frame. Conventional launching and receiving of in-line inspection tools would not be suitable and instead an alternative solution was devised to perform the inspection safely and successfully. With the launcher door ajar and modifications made to the Dacon’s Ultrasonic In-Line Inspection tool, the inspection was executed gathering quality data reducing overall operation duration and overcoming challenges in maintaining constant speed while keeping the transducer centered throughout. The project was completed within the stipulated timeframe meeting expectations.

As with every in-line inspection, data was immediately downloaded and a field report produced within hours of review, concluded with the customer on-site maintaining Dacon’s customer-centric approach.
