Dacon provides intelligent PIGing services for the inspection of gas and oil pipelines. The intelligent PIG, which stands for Pipe Inspection Gauge, can be used for inspection of very long pipelines with the greatest possible accuracy. The PIG works on the principles of the IRIS ultrasonic internal tube inspection system and gives information about depth, geometry and location of defects in the pipeline. The IRISpig can be battery operated without any cables attached. Kilometers length of pipeline can be inspected with the self contained probe which is pushed through the pipe line with water.
Examples of pipelines that can be inspected with this tool are very long oil- and gas pipelines as well as offshore risers on wells and platforms, short flow lines around refineries and tank farms or road, rail and river crossings.
Dacon started developing the IRISpig in 1998 because Total France and PTT-EP Thailand demanded an accurate inspection method for inspection of their pipe lines. In 2000 Dacon joined forces with Pan American Industries, who were involved in IRIS development from the early days, to further develop the IRISpig. In 2001 the first PIG was succesfully completed and field tested in the full scale testing facility at the Dacon office in Thailand. In 2002 the first inspection was completed succesfully in the Gulf of Thailand.
Since then the PIG has proven itself through numerous jobs in most parts of the world to be a rugged and reliable inspection tool capable of reporting pipeline defects with the greatest accuracy.
